The Nick Tuttle Studio
Nicholas Tuttle has been the owner and operator of his studio in Mt. Adams for four years. Far from an impersonal and cramped room in the back of a music store, Nicholas' studio is large and open with high ceilings, hardwood floors, and many windows. It is located on the second floor of 932 Hatch St., above the restaurant Daveed's. Having his studio located in residence is a great asset, as it allows many comforts and advantages, such as flexible scheduling, internet and student record availability on a G4 Macintosh, comfort for waiting students, and the bottomless pot of fresh coffee. In fact, it is this environment that seems to turn many students into friends, encouraging them to call or just stop by for questions or just a visit.

One aspect of teaching that Nicholas most stresses in his curriculum is that of the student-driven education. He is always encouraging his students to bring in the music or bands that they like, his experience being that a student is much more motivated to learn something they enjoy and recognize rather than scales and arpeggios. Then he progresses to the theory or mechanics, depending on how much the student desires to learn, in relation to the pieces they have selected. Nicholas' range of teaching spans from jazz and classical to popular music, and even some Middle Eastern selections. The entire concept of his studio revolves around the student choosing the material, the rate at which they proceed, and the degree of technical tutelage.

In addition to his extensive instructing experience, Nicholas also offers his background as a live performer. He incorporates these performance skills into his teaching by offering an ensemble class. This class, separate from private lessons, allows students to learn to play together, facilitating the student's development as a musician, and enriching the student's overall education.

Please see our contact page for means of more detailed information as well as lesson availability and/or scheduling.
