Blind Lemon
The narrow, dark and cave-like walkway
into the Blind Lemon in Mt. Adams opens into a storybook
courtyard and an old-world pub.
In the summertime, the yard is set up
like a living room, with white iron furniture squared
around small tables with flickering candles. Enclosed
between the brick walls of two buildings and a high
fence, the courtyard is something of a garden room with
the night sky as a ceiling. In warm weather, local
musicians set up in the front of the yard and strum the
guitar for patrons sipping refreshing drinks.
During the winter months, the indoor
bar becomes a cozy hangout, with a flickering fire in
the stone fireplace. Seating quarters are tight, and on
a full night it can be difficult to maneuver your way
through the maze of tiny tables. Still, it's the perfect
place for a hot chocolate and warm conversation on a
snowy evening. On Thursday through Saturday nights,
weather permitting, the club lights a big bonfire in the
yard. Gather around the flames with a cup of coffee
after dinner at one of the neighboring restaurants.
The pub is covered in Hollywood
memorabilia, antique collectibles and stained glass.
Metal cars and airplanes hang from the ceiling.
Photographs of famous entertainers, signed by the
artist, line the walls. Musicians set up in the back
corner and cover the bar with acoustic sounds of guitar
and mellow folk or jazz tunes.
The crowd is professional, upscale and
30-something. The dress is trendy, the atmosphere
subdued, and no one is pounding beers at the bar. This
is not a place to get a groove on, or party like a rock
star. The Blind Lemon is a place for more subtle
flirting, relaxed discussion and perhaps a romantic
evening. Since the establishment is just a short walk
from Playhouse in the Park or the Cincinnati Art Museum,
much of the crowd is topping off an evening out.
Parking in Mt. Adams is always a
problem. And because of the stairs leading down into the
Blind Lemon, and the close proximity of the tables, the
bar is not very handicapped accessible.
